Salvador Hernandez Sr. 94, of Pueblo, Colorado passed away peacefully June 21, 2026 at his home. He was born August 4th, 1931 in Rifle, Colorado to Leandro and Erminia (Garcia) Hernandez. Salvador lived a life defined by honor, hard work, and an unwavering devotion to his family. We celebrate a remarkable man who brought strength, wisdom, and warmth to everyone he knew. Salvador answered the call of duty in September 1951, proudly serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. After completing his training in the rugged terrain of Alaska, his battalion deployed for Korea. In a twist of fate, an armistice was declared while they were en route, re-routing his unit to Japan. He served his country with honor until 1954, carrying the proud tradition of the Marines throughout his entire life. Upon returning home to Pueblo, Salvador’s life found its true anchor. On September 22, 1955, he married the love of his life, Jeanette Garcia. Together, they built a beautiful life and a growing family. Salvador was a man of fierce work ethic; he spent 10 years at the CF&I steel mill, which rightfully honored his military service. Always an entrepreneur at heart, he later moved his family to Walsenburg, Colorado, where they operated and managed the local Chevron gas station for several years. Education was a lifelong passion for Salvador. He proved that it is never too late to pursue a dream, earning his credentials to become an Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor. Through this vital work, he turned his empathy into action, guiding countless individuals toward healing and recovery. Of all his achievements, Salvador’s greatest pride was his family. In his well-deserved retirement, his days were filled with laughter, storytelling, and the joy of watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply. Preceded in death by his parents, Leandro and Erminia Hernandez; siblings, Esther, Crisita, Carmen, Mary Louise, Ernest; son, Joseph Hernandez (Rita Cason); grandchild Augustina Hernandez. Survived by his wife Jeanette; sister, Joann Guara; children, Charmaine (John) Herrera, Salvador Hernandez, Jr, Jaime Hernandez (Karen Vezzani), Raymond (Amy) Hernandez, Christopher (Andrea) Hernandez, Nathaniel Hernandez (Elsira Gutierrez), Naomi (Vern) Perry. grandchildren; Jesse Hernandez, Michael (Merlene) Herrera, Salvador (Veronica) Hernandez III, JR (Gina) Burke, Emily (Alec) Reich, Julia Hernandez, Jenna Percibal, Ritisha Hernandez, Joseph (Shaylyn) Hernandez, Eugene Hernandez, Tyson Manygoats, Cody Hernandez (Julie Bellew), Dyllan Hernandez (Hannah Pauling), Cristiana Hernandez, Isaac (Desiree) Hernandez, Desmond (Annette) Hernandez, Nathaniel Hernandez II, Alyxandria Hernandez, Vernon Perry, James Perry; 25 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Rosary will be at 9 a.m., followed by visitation at 9:30 a.m., and Funeral Service to begin at10 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2026, at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment, Roselawn Cemetery.
