Mark Mutz Jr.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mark Mutz Jr. on December 7th, 2024. Mark was born on March 8, 1946, in Denver, Colorado, and grew up in Pueblo, where he attended Central High School. At 17, Mark joined the Army, serving in Korea during the Vietnam War as a payroll clerk. After completing his service, he returned to Pueblo and enrolled at Southern Colorado State College, where he met his future wife, Peggy O'Neill. Following a brief courtship, they married in February 1968. After graduation, Mark began working as a computer salesman, first with Burroughs and later with Digital Equipment Corporation. In 1970, their first child, Monica, was born. After relocating to Texas for work, they had two sons, Mark and Neil. The family also lived in Boise, Idaho, and Salt Lake City, Utah. Tragically, their daughter Monica passed away in 1984 at the age of 14. In 1986, Peggy and Mark moved back to Colorado, settling in Monument. Throughout his career, Mark was frequently recognized as a top sales associate. As a top performer, he consistently earned rewards for his achievements, including international travel to Hong Kong, China, Australia, and multiple trips to Hawaii. In 2003, Mark earned a degree in accounting from Regis University, graduating magna cum laude. After retiring and returning to Pueblo, Mark enjoyed volunteering with the VITA program through the United Way, helping people with their tax returns. As an avid golfer, he shared his passion for the game with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. Mark also took many golf trips with close friends to famous courses around the world, including a memorable trip to Scotland to play the Old Course at St. Andrews. His favorite course in Colorado was Holy Dot in Colorado City. A passionate history buff, Mark had a particular interest in the history of the Sioux Wars. He took numerous road trips to visit battlefields in Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Nebraska. He was a proud honorary member of the Delta Chi fraternity and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Mark was preceded in death by his parents: Marco and Matilda Mutz, mother and father-in-law: Dennis and Lois O’Neill, daughter Monica Mutz, brother Jim Mutz and sister Matilda Major. Mark is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy Mutz, son Mark Mutz, daughter in law Nikki (Sayler) Mutz, son Neil Mutz, and grandchildren: Mason, Logan, Gage and Paige. He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will be missed dearly. A private service and celebration of life will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Special Olympics.
