John Ewell Williams

John Ewell Williams, 88, passed away May 12, 2024 after a long courageous battle with COPD. John is survived by his wife, Brigitte; daughter, Nancy Scheid (Scott); son, John and (partner Shari); son, Michael (Annie); grandchildren, James Scheid (Kelli), Heide Scheid and partner Josh, Montana Williams (Eric), Amanda Rice (Scott), Aspen Williams and Michael Williams; great grandchildren, Peyton and Jackson Scheid, and Asa and Lux Rice; sister, Mabel Bassett; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Mabel Williams; brothers, Benjamin and Hiram Williams, brother-in-law, John Bassett, and other relatives. John grew up in Rye, Colorado, where he played basketball, continuing his basketball career at Pueblo Community College, and Adams State College. After graduating with a BA degree, he served in the US Army for four years in Germany. He met and married his wife, Brigitte in Berlin, Germany. They have been married for 64 years. After his military service, John was a foreman at the CF&I Steel Mill for 25 years and they raised their children in the Pueblo and Rye area. He was a great father who was very involved in his children’s lives. John retired early from the steel mill, and he and Brigitte moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, where he became a successful real estate broker. They eventually moved back to Pueblo to enjoy their retirement years. John enjoyed fishing and hunting trips, travelling throughout the USA, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. John especially enjoyed motorcycle riding, owning many bikes from his teenage years through age 85. The family would like to thank Dr. Guy Kemling and his staff for their care, and also the first responders of the Pueblo Rural Fire Department. John was a long-time member of the American Legion Post 2, and their Riders organization, whose mission is to support our veterans. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making memorial contributions in memory of John to the American Legion Post 2 Riders. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 23rd at 11 am at the Roselawn Chapel. A celebration of John’s life will follow at 1 pm at the Pueblo American Legion Post 2 Hall, 701 West 9th Street.
