John Thomas Felix

John Thomas Felix passed away October 18th, 2022 in Pueblo, Colorado. John was born May 14th, 1953 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was preceded in death by father, John Felix, Jr.; and mother, Barbara Jane Hall Felix, of Woodland Park, CO; father-in-law, CWO W4 (retired) Donald K. Wescott, and mother-in-law, Mickey G. Wescott. John will be remembered in life by his wife, Deborah; and son, Mike; sister, Minnie Jo Wixom; and brother-in-law, late Dennis Scholl of Bullhead City, AZ; sister, Cheryl Jane Felix McClellan; and brother-in-law, Richard L. McLellan of Chesterland, OH; sister, Judith Greenhalgh; and brother-in-law, Stephen Greenhalgh, of Salt Lake City, UT; brother, James D. Felix, of Manitou Springs, CO; brothers-in-law, Charles N. (Christine) Wescott, and Michael T. (Christine) Wescott and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. We should all remember John for a lifetime dedicated to the service of others. John served as a medic in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant while supporting the 571st Medical Detachment, Helicopter Ambulance / search and rescue crews in the Rocky Mountain region. After concluding his honorable service, John put his skills to work as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) throughout the greater Colorado Springs area. John further honed his skills, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from University of Southern Colorado and moving up to the role of Registered Nurse (RN) II. John would go on to spend many years providing care for some of Colorado’s most challenging patients as a psych nurse supporting various wards of the Colorado State Hospital, St. Mary Corwin Hospital and Parkview Medical Center. John cared for the young and old alike, specializing in service to those battling deep substance abuse and mental health issues. Through his time teaching at University of Southern Colorado and as a supervisor, John mentored new generations of caregivers into the mental health profession. John’s passion and dedication to the service of others extended well beyond his professional career. John’s dedication to the safe use of firearms for recreation, hunting, and self-defense would see him serve in many instructional and board positions for shooting ranges throughout Pueblo. John was an avid fundraiser, activist, and grant coordinator for youth and political organizations involving firearms and the outdoors. Groups benefitting from John’s support and leadership included the Boy Scouts, 4-H, the American Legion, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Friends of the NRA, and Elks Lodge 90 (Pueblo Chapter). During COVID, John supported the Pueblo Senior Resource Development Agency (SRDA) to ensure seniors would still have access to services like Meals on Wheels. In his personal time, John was passionate about rebuilding specialty vehicles. Most notable of these were his 2-wheel drive Rokon motorcycle, which he named “Rock-On”, and his 1965 Ford Mustang. John showed both of these vehicles in car shows and won multiple awards throughout the Rocky Mountain region. He was a passionate member of the Outlaws Rod and Custom Club, regularly supporting the club’s meets and community activities. He was also an avid outdoorsman, leading his family on multiple camping, fishing, and hunting expeditions over several decades where he passed on family traditions of respect and stewardship for Colorado’s wilderness. Services for John will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home Friday, October 28th, at 10:00 a.m. with internment to follow. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with John’s dedication to the care of others, the family suggests donations to Pueblo County 4-H Shooting Sports or Whittington Center Adventure Camp.
