GIlbert G. Wilkins

Lifelong Coloradan, Gilbert G. Wilkins of Pueblo West, completed his 94-year earth journey on Jan. 7, 2023, to join his parents Edward Wilkins Sr. and Amelia Tafoya Wilkins, and his five brothers and sisters. He married M. Evelyn Roybal-Wilkins who was blessed to age together for 74 years. Mr. Wilkins was seen as the patriarch of the Wilkins family. Gilbert was a member of the last great generation where you worked hard, never complained and if it was broken you fixed it. He entered the U.S. Navy at 18, motivated to do his part in WWII. A veteran he served with the U.S. Navy had oversea duty in the Asian Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Pueblo naval reserve as a petty officer first class from1959 to 1967. Gilbert had a fulfilling 42-year career with civil services that took him to many Army military installations from Thailand, Okinawa, South Korea, Japan and Alaska, in 1967 and Europe in 1966, for which he received many letters of accommodation. As a civilian, Gilbert did 2 one-year tours in Vietnam during the hight of the conflict. By 1970, he relocated his family to Nurnberg W. Germany. He traveled to many European U.S. Military bases teaching classes and troubleshooting challenges. Gilbert spent a year in Soule, South Korea with his favorite 3-year assignment in Hawaii. Gilbert was active with the Knights of Columbus for 70 years. Gilbert G. Wilkins leaves his loving family, his wife, M. Evelyn Wilkins; son, Glen (Carol) Wilkins of Pueblo West, Colo.; daughter, Shirley (James) Hedges of Orange Park, Fla.; daughter, PJ (Francis Anthony – Tony) Bell of Eagle River, Alaska; son, Randal (Mary Ann) Wilkins of Roseville, Mich.; with many grand and great-grandchildren residing in Florida, Colorado, Michigan, Texas, Taiwan, Washington, California and the Czech Republic. On Jan. 13, 2023, funeral services will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 1132 W. Oro Grande Dr., Pueblo West, CO 81007. Rosary, 10:30 a.m. Mass, 11 a.m. Followed by words / reflection and slide presentation from the Wilkins Family at 11:45 a.m. A reception held at the church will be sponsored by the Ladies Guild - Bereavement Committee.
