Edward "Eddie" L. Montoya

Edward “Eddie” L. Montoya, age 86, passed away peacefully at the Life Care Center after a lengthy illness, surrounded by the love and watchful presence of his family. Eddie was born in 1939 to Victor and Eloisa Marie Montoya and grew up in Pueblo County, Colorado. He later moved to Pueblo, where he spent the remainder of his life building a legacy rooted in family, service, laughter, and compassion. Eddie leaves behind his beloved wife, Helen (Elena) Montoya, with whom he shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. The two met on a blind date and were married on April 22, 1961. This coming April would have marked their 65th wedding anniversary, a true testament to their enduring love and partnership. He is survived by his children, Julie Montoya, Monica (Gary) Miketa, Wayne Montoya, and Steve (Kam) Montoya; his cherished grandchildren, Zach and Mollie Miketa, Sophia Montoya, Damian and Alexa Montoya, Paige (Todd) Waye; and great grandchildren, Bryant and Brady Waye; his sister Corrine Pando and sister-in-law Ruby Montoya; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Eddie was preceded in death by his sister, Caroline, who passed away at eight months old: brothers, Sequio (Freda), Raymond (Betty), Alfred, Richard (Irene), and Charles; sister, Sally Urenda. Eddie also leaves behind his dear friend and longtime golfing partner, Lou Luna, who remained a constant presence and faithful visitor throughout Eddie’s illness, a friendship Eddie deeply treasured. Family was the center of Eddie’s world. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a mentor to his children and grandchildren. He led with patience, wisdom, and kindness, always taking the time to listen, offer guidance, and sometimes even a pack of Lifesavers. Those closest to him will forever remember his warm smile, contagious laughter, and sense of humor, often using “you flake” as a term of endearment. An avid golfer, known as “Steady Eddie,” he found great joy on the golf course, where he excelled and competed passionately. He won many tournaments over the years, including several senior tournaments, and shared countless rounds with friends who admired both his skill and sportsmanship. In 1957, he was named the Pueblo County High School “Outstanding Athlete of the year”. Eddie loved sports, dancing, spending time with family and friends, and simply being present with the people he loved most.
