Born Joe Abelino “Abbey” Cordova on Nov 22, 1928 and passed away peacefully at home May 25, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. Proceeded in death by his wife, Elvira; and special granddaughter, Belinda; and mother, Jenny Sanchez; and grandmother, Josie Brito Survived by children, Gloria (Ted) Espinoza, Richard (Rena) Jimenez, Joe Jr. (Christine) Cordova, John Cordova, Laura (Rick) Riggs, Theresa (Bob Banham) Cordova, Vincent (Virginia) Cordova; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; also survived by sister, Mary Davis; brother, Raymond (Patsy) Madrid. Joe graduated from Central High School and earned his Associates Degree from SCSC. A Veteran of the US Army, Joe served from 1946-1956. During the Korean War, he received the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Medal, Airborne Jump Wings, Glide Wings, Expert Badge 045 cal. Pistol, 30 cal, Machine Gun, and 30 cal. Carbine. Joe retired from the CF&I Ore Prep. No viewing. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Mass will be 11:00am, Thursday, June 2, 2016 at St. Mary’s Help of Christians Church.
