Edwin Francis Young Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Edwin Francis Young was called home to HIS Lord on February 10, 2022, after living a full life of service as a son, nephew, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Ed was born June 1, 1935, to Frank and Elmira (Ackley) Young in Canon City, Colorado. Ed was active in his youth with the Boy Scouts, playing basketball, and ROTC. He spent his summers working on a farm in Kansas and loved it! He graduated from Canon City High School in 1954. Ed then attended Pueblo Junior College where he met Peggy Yarberry. They married on December 29, 1957. They moved to Denver where Ed joined the Air Force and spent four years as an instructor in guided missiles. They had two children together, Jeff in 1961, and Joni in 1964. Ed then went to work for Xerox Corporation in Denver and was later transferred to Rochester, New York. While in New York, Ed earned his bachelor’s degree as an Industrial Engineer from Rochester Institute of Technology. He went on to work for RF Communications and then in 1970, with 2 friends, he started Metrix Data Systems. In 1973, Ed purchased the 65-year-old Sterling Siren Fire Alarm Corp. and moved the business to his home in Canon City. He later was employed at St. Mary Corwin Hospital as an Industrial Engineer and was promoted to the head of Materials Management. Ed met Rita Luna and they married on June 11, 1994. Ed and Rita loved to travel and spend time with family and host holiday dinners. Ed was an avid golfer. During his retirement, Ed became very involved with his church. He loved Sunday morning services and Sunday school. Ed turned his attention to help build a new addition to his church in 2009. It was a true labor of love. Ed began volunteering with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association as an online disciple. He loved this work and was so excited to help reach the lost and introduce them to Jesus Christ. He extended that work to include his grandchildren with a weekly email called “Inklings.” Ed is preceded in death by his parents and his two favorite aunts, Maude McKissick and Ruth Young. He is survived by his wife, Rita, her daughter Brigette (Ed) Wernsman of Lone Tree, Colorado, his son, Jeff (Tina) Young of Colorado Springs, Colorado, his daughter, Joni (Pat) Sandoval of Brighton, Colorado, and grandchildren, Madison Young, and Nicole (Devin) DeLeon of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jasmine (Wade) Jacobs of Kit Carson, Colorado, Jenna Sandoval of Brooklyn, New York, Joshua Sandoval of Brighton, Colorado, Philip, Gabrielle, and Veronica Wernsman of Lone Tree, Colorado; and one great-grandson, Silas Jacobs. In lieu of food and flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in Ed’s honor. Military honors will be provided by the Pueblo Veterans Ritual Team.
