Robert Louis Acrey

Robert Louis Acrey, 81, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026, in Pueblo, Colorado. He was born on May 3, 1945, in San Marcos, Texas, to Claude Roy Acrey and Fannie Mae Akin. Robert was the youngest of eight children. In 1965, Robert was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country for two years, including a tour of duty in the Demilitarized Zone in Korea. Following his military service, Robert made his way to Colorado, where he worked alongside his brother as a framing carpenter in new home construction. It was during those years in Pueblo that Robert met Sylvia, a divorced mother of three young children. The two began dating, and on December 10, 1976, Robert and Sylvia were married. Marriage brought Robert not only the role of husband, but also the responsibility of becoming a father to Sylvia’s three children. He embraced that responsibility and became an important part of their lives. Robert and Sylvia shared 38 years together before her passing. Robert was a cowboy at heart. He was rarely seen without his cowboy hat and boots, and in his younger years he enjoyed working on a ranch. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting and fishing. He also had a special affection for his truck. But one of Robert’s greatest pastimes was reading, especially the western novels of Louis L’Amour. Through the years, his love of the Old West, the outdoors, and a simpler way of life remained a defining part of who he was. Above all, Robert was a born-again believer who had given his life to Jesus Christ. His faith was an important part of his life, and he now rests in the presence of the Savior he loved. Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 38 years, Sylvia; daughter Yvette Sue; grandchildren Krysten and Jake; sisters Carrie and Patsy; and brothers Ace, Jack, Glenn, and Billy. He is survived by his brother Raymond Acrey; sons Walter (Rose) Maddux and Ray (Loretta) Maddux; grandchildren Doug, Devin, James, Ankica, and Tye; and six great-grandchildren, along with other family members and friends who will miss him dearly. Robert lived a life marked by service, family, faith, and a love for the Western spirit. He will be remembered for his cowboy heart, his love of the outdoors, his quiet enjoyment of a good Western novel, and most of all, the place he held in the hearts of his family. A Celebration of Life for Robert will be held on October 3, 2026, at 2:00 pm at the Lone Owl Pavilion at Lake Pueblo State Park in Pueblo, Colorado. Family and friends are invited to come together to remember his life, share stories, and celebrate the man he was and the legacy he leaves behind. “Absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” — 2 Corinthians 5:8
