Raymond "Ray" "Sonny" Lee Cid

Raymond “Ray” “Sonny” Lee Cid 83 was born October 20, 1940 and went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents Ramon and Jacqueline Cid. Ray Is survived by his love wife, Priscilla; Children; Ken (Lanette) Cid, Cherie (Perry) Lizer and Kristie (Brian) Mumpy; and grandchildren Daniel, Matthew, Kayla, Abigail and Nicholas. Ray was absolutely devoted to his family, something he learned from his mother. Ray met Priscilla when their kids were teenagers, but that fact did not stop him from deeply loving his new daughter and her family. Nothing could make him smile more than his family, whether it was a quick phone call, a visit, or our yearly camping trips. He would spend more time untangling the fishing lines for his kids and then grandkids than he did actually fishing, but that is what made great memories. His 5 grandchildren think the world of him and hold so many cherished memories of their loving, generous and sappy grandpa (who was known to become misty eyed at a simple thank you card). He loved to listen to them share corny jokes, attend their school concerts or sporting events and just generally cheer them on! He sure was proud of them all! It is hard to put into words who Ray was. One pretty accurate word is welcoming. No matter what or pretty much no matter who dropped by, there was always a chair and a soda pop at the ready! Adopted is another word for Ray. He chaperoned many a bus trip during the family’s years of involvement with the Pueblo Pride City Marching Band. He was an active parent in the lives of his kids and grandkids. Many a times, this resulted in his being “adopted” by those friends, even to the point where they tried to pull pranks on him, like the “tasty” garlic gum trick (didn’t work)! Ray was warm, kind and always smiling. Ray worked many jobs in his younger years, eventually hiring on at the Denver and Rio Grand Western Railroad where he became a train engineer. He was quite proud of his job and was an active member in the local UTU (United Transportation Union). He retired after 32 years on the job. He was a founding member of the of the Southern Colorado Chapter of the national model A car club. The group would gather to show off their cars, help each other repair and restore those beautiful cars. It was always fun to see them all gather and take road trips. Giving and Volunteer are 2 more words to describe Ray. He volunteered at the nursing home where his father-in-law lived. He would make sure to take the folks to the state fair, fishing at San Isabel and of course the Southern Colorado A’s would visit. Ray, along with his dear wife Priscilla also volunteered with St. Joseph’s church. They were active in building and maintaining the raised gardens for many years. They would plant, harvest, and deliver the produce to those in need in the community. Ray was a giving and loving man, who set an example that his family works daily to emulate. Ray will be loved forever and dearly missed.
