Melvin Lee Coy

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Melvin Lee Coy on June 10, 2023. He was born in Oxford, Colorado to Fred Lee Coy and Ruth Carter on May 16, 1938. He married the love of his life, Marie Annetta Murdock, in 1957. Mel and Marie had three children, Debbie, Randy, and Steve. Family was the most important thing to them. They lived in Lakewood, Colorado; Alamosa, Colorado; and finally in Pueblo West, Colorado. Mel grew up on the farm and learned to work hard at a young age. After moving to Denver, he attended local schools and when he was thirteen, he started a very successful lawn mowing business with his two brothers. Mel employed his many talents during his career with King Soopers where he made many life-long friends. He was a wonderful mentor to many, both in and out of the workplace. Mel was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and Marie enjoyed attending various sporting events, camping, motorcycle riding, and other outdoor family activities. He spent his retirement years serving his family, friends, and neighbors and was loved by all who knew him. Marie passed in 2014 and Mel didn’t wander far from their home from then on. He was very happy at the prospect of being reunited with Marie, his parents, and other friends and family beyond the veil. Mel and Marie were active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they enjoyed serving in various callings. They particularly loved to perform acts of service for their family, fellow church members, neighborhood friends, and often strangers, too. Mel and Marie entered into the eternal covenant of marriage in the Mount Timpanogos Temple in April of 2005. Mel and Marie were very pleased with their posterity and are survived by their 3 children, 16 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. Mel is also survived by his brother, Marvin; sister, Dorothy; brother, Vern; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mel was preceded in death by his beloved Marie; his parents, Fred and Ruth Carter Coy; his infant sister, Helen Roberta Coy; and his sister, Eunice Darlene Keys. Services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, with a viewing in the Relief Society Room beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 144 South Abarr Drive, Pueblo West, Colorado. Interment at Imperial Memorial Gardens, Pueblo, Colorado. Funeral arrangements have been made through Roselawn Funeral Home in Pueblo, Colorado.
