JoAnne T Almeda

JoAnne T. Almeda (Vigil),76, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at her home in Pueblo. She was challenged this year after suffering 2 strokes, back-to-back. Her health overall these past 10 years created many daily challenges. She spent much time in and out of the hospital and local rehab nursing homes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Henrietta Vigil, infant brother Joey, Son, Stephan M. Chavez, very special cousin, Janet Martinez Rodriguez and many other special Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends. She is survived by her husband, Tito I. Almeda, who provided exceptional caregiving to her, day and night. She was the proud mother of Lawrence R. Chavez, Jr., (Felix Ortega), Robert M. Chavez, Christopher L. Martinez and her son in heaven, Stephan M. Chavez, her loving brother, Randy S. Vigil (Karen Young), her wonderful grandchildren, Robert Lee Chavez, Connor, Caroline and Jonathan Nybo, step-children: Cyndi Bailey, (Jim), Mary Calime (Demetri), Barbara Higgs, (Jeremy), Tito Jr.(dec) and their children who were all very special to JoAnne. She was raised alongside her aunts and uncle who were more like Sisters and a brother to her: Victoria Roldan, Frieda Martinez, Charlotte Lucero, Bertha Cordova, Ercilia Luna, Betty Cordova, and Leo J. Duran (dec). Throughout her life she had very special relationships and friends: Larry Chavez, Sr., Chet Bourke, Leroy Martinez, Randy and Jennifer and their families. Life-long friend Dodie Sandoval, special bonus-son, Joe Roderick. JoAnne was also the proud God-mother of Paula Krohn, Leslie Chavez, and Denis Hines. She treasured her memories of her friends and experiences from St. Leander School, Risley Middle School, and East High School, class of 1964! She loved her various jobs at Audie's Beauty Salon, South-side KMart, Target store, Pueblo Greyhound Park, and Colorado Mental Health Pueblo (State Hospital - Dining Services) and a couple other jobs in Pueblo. She made very special friendships wherever she went and wherever she worked. She was always a valued employee. Mama Jo, as she was known by many, loved spending time with her family, cooking amazing meals, Fishing, and camping with her boys and spending time with her grandchildren. She was very proud to be a faith-filled Catholic woman and instilled her love of God and Our Mother Mary, with her 4 boys throughout life. She was a life-long member of St. Leander Catholic Parish since 1946! She carried a very special love for Sister Mary Gervais, a Nun who meant so very much to her from her St. Leander days. The family will meet with her friends at the Parish Hall after the burial at Roselawn Cemetery. The family would like to thank everyone who provided care to JoAnne at any time, She treasured her special friendships with so many.
