Hendretta J. Medina

Hendretta J. Medina was born October 19, 1933, in Trinidad, Colorado and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 6, 2024. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Piedad Medina; children, Robert, Marilyn and Marian; granddaughters, Briana, and Baby Justina; parents, Benjamin and Eva Baca; and siblings, Ben, Gloria, Loretta, Fred, Stella, Emma, Irene, Juanita, and Eldora. Hendretta is survived by her loving children, Richard (Stella), Ronald, Jeanette (Shawn), Joseph (Maria), James, Daniel (Andrea), and Mary (Curtis); brother, Orlando; sister, Flora Jean (Mario); 32 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Hendretta graduated from Adams State University, where she earned a Master of Psychology Degree with an emphasis in Guidance and Counseling. During the 1980’s she was the Resident Leader on the Board for Neighborhood Housing Services. While there she made a tremendous impact by bringing concerns regarding the East Side and its residents, as well as instituting programs to improve the community. She went on to retire from St. Mary Corwin’s Dorcy Cancer Center with years of dedicated service. She was extremely devoted to her faith and was a dedicated member of St. Leander Parish for 72 years. While a parishioner there, she served in various capacities such as extraordinary minister and bilingual lector. Hendretta loved to share her love of the Lord with anyone she met, which is most likely how she never met a stranger. She would care for anyone that needed prayer, food, or just a warm loving embrace. She loved to feed everyone that would come to visit and would not let you leave without eating something. A true caregiver that would spread love and compassion everywhere she went. She maintained close relationships with several priests that served at St. Leander and throughout the community, their connection was recently described as “maternal love” and they would visit her often and she would feed all of them. Even at 90 she was very independent, driving and doing her own grocery shopping made her an example of leadership to her children and grandchildren. Among her most treasured possessions are her family. She loved them with everything she had to give. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother that taught her family the importance of family traditions, love for God and how to pray. Holidays were her favorite and she would make sure the whole family was together to celebrate. Saint of God, and Apostle are just a couple of the words that best describe Hendretta to her family. She will be forever loved and deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
