Dewitt "Skip" Chandler

DeWitt “Skip” Chandler born June 4, 1946 departed this world with dignity on March 5, 2025. Survived by his loving wife Judy of 58 years. Adored and respected by his children Kristie (Steve) Cervi, Kerrie (Daniel) Studen, and Kurt Chandler ; Grandsons: Michael, Nick, and Christopher Cervi, and Benjamin Studen, Grandpup Graci, who brightened his days. Also survived brother Doug (Linda) Chandler and family, numerous nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins and loyal friends, especially Karl Birch. Preceded in death by parents Charles E. and Jeanne Chandler, brother Charlie “Chuck” Chandler. He was a graduate of South High School, class of 1964 and Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. He was an educator in Pueblo School District 60 for almost 30 years, beginning his career at Keating Junior High School, then spending the majority of his career at Central High School. He was greatly respected and influenced countless numbers of students as a science teacher and a coach. Skip treasured his time in the great outdoors of Colorado with his family and friends: backpacking, camping, ATV adventures, hiking, fishing, and hunting. These are loves that he joyfully passed on to his children and grandchildren. In his later years, he especially enjoyed target shooting and teaching others about shooting, reloading shell casings, and gun safety. Nothing was more important to “Poppy” than his family. He will always be a pillar of strength, knowledge, determination, and inspiration for all who knew him. He was especially proud of his children and grandsons. He loved being with his grandsons teaching them everything he knew and encouraging them to always do their best. “Poppy” was incredibly invested in their day to day lives, no matter where they were. Skip was an eclectic, endless source of information and curiosity. He was a master of organization. He loved solving problems or doing research to find the answer. He will be remembered most for his generosity, a willingness to help anyone with anything at any time, his great sense of humor, and especially for the way his HUGS enveloped and warmed your soul.
