In Loving Memory of Ashton Bryant Smith March 13, 2002 – June 28, 2026 Ashton Bryant Smith, 24, of Pueblo, Colorado, went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2026, in Pueblo, Colorado. He was born on March 13, 2002, in Pueblo, and though his time with us was far too short, the light he carried touched everyone lucky enough to know him. From the time he was a small boy, Ashton was captivated by anything with wheels, tracks, blades, or an engine. Hockey, trucks, tractors, and trains were his first loves, and that fascination with how things moved and worked never left him. He grew into a gifted young man with a rare, natural talent for mechanics — he could take apart an engine, understand it inside and out, and rebuild it, engineering his own solutions along the way. It was a gift that seemed to come as easily to him as breathing. Ashton was a die-hard Colorado Avalanche fan through and through. He could rattle off stats, player names, and game details like he was reading straight from the record books, and he brought that same passion to the ice himself, playing hockey for his hometown of Pueblo for many, many years. He loved his teammates, he loved the sport, and he loved the ice — and he played every single chance he got, a passion that carried with him throughout his young life. Ashton graduated from Pueblo West High School in 2020. After graduation he worked at Cyclone Carwash where he found a lifelong mentor and built incredible friendships; there he picked up life skills and sharpened his strong and dedicated work ethic. He went on to earn his Commercial Driver’s License, which opened the door to a career with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). He quickly moved up in his roles, becoming a Transportation Maintenance II worker, and served with crews in Craig, Cotopaxi, and Granby, Colorado. Among his proudest responsibilities was running snowplow routes along the Continental Divide, keeping some of the state’s highest and most treacherous mountain passes safe and passable through brutal winter conditions. It was work that demanded skill, courage, and an unshakable sense of responsibility for the drivers counting on him, and Ashton met the challenge, year after year. Along the way he built friendships with his crew mates that went far beyond coworkers — they became some of his closest friends, a second family forged on the mountain in the earliest, coldest hours of the morning. As if engines, mechanics, and hockey weren’t enough, Ashton also taught himself to play the guitar. He was endlessly curious and endlessly capable, a light that shined like a bright star in the lives of everyone around him. Ashton was preceded in death by his grandfather, Curtis Armstrong. Ashton leaves behind his mother and stepfather, Ilee and Uriah DeSoto; his father, Nathan Smith (Jackie Galli); his sister, Avery Smith (Justin Webster); his stepbrother, Raidon DeSoto; his beautiful girlfriend, Sarah Steenbergen; and his grandparents, Colleen Armstrong, Gregg and Judy Smith, Cynthia Kidder, Beverly Hutchins, and Richard and Elizabeth Chereton. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Robert and Lydia Armstrong, Michaela and Rolly Schendel, Zachary Smith (Katie Wedum), and Robert and Jade Yoder; his cousins, Lindrey and Ryer Schendel, Isaiah Armstrong, Miriah Yoder (Johnny Acosta), Ryder, Laylani, and Kaden Yoder; along with many other extended family members who loved him dearly. Ashton loved Jesus. He knew his Savior and made time with Him and being in the company of his Bible study growth groups and church communities a staple of his life. His faith was important to him and in the many places he lived he found a church. He spent time building his own faith and encouraging the faith of others, especially through volunteer work with the FCA Hockey Camp. His infectious joy, given only by God, brought so many happy times to those who knew him and to those who were lucky enough to spend time in his company. He was a brilliant, talented, pure-hearted young man who left us far too soon — but he has gone to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Ashton will forever live on in our hearts, our memories, and our thoughts. Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever our Ashy. Forever our Boog. Love you bye. Services: The family will be holding a celebration of life for Ashton at Majestic Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 11 am. There will also be a precession motorcade starting at 9:30 am Tuesday, July 7 leaving from Roselawn Funeral Home travelling to Majestic Baptist Church. In true honor of “our country boy” the family requests attendees to wear a Canadian Tuxedo (denim on denim). The family is incredibly thankful and encouraged by the amount of love, prayers, support, and memories from the community and lives Ashton impacted.
